About Our Trip!

Megan got a great idea when Betsy and my dad went to Kenya in April. She decided that her project would be to take the children of Mercy Care Centre on a field trip to an animal orphanage near Nairobi. The cost for each child to get into the orphange is about 75 cents each. Megan's Pop's, Wayne, had brought back wooden animals for Megan's class. She decided she would sell these wooden animals and key chains made in Kenya to raise money for the trips. She began with her church, who embraced her project and showed their full support with many donations and many purchasing animals for the cause. She spoke on Mother's Day in church about what she was planning to do on her trip. Then she appeared on her school TV to tell the students of NLA about her project. With the support of the SCA, she sold the animals & keychains at the school store. We were overwhelmed at how supportive the students, parents, teachers, and friends were of her project. She amazed us at the ownership she has taken with this project.
Megan's excitement began to grow after she spoke with Patrick, the principal of Mercy Care Centre, on the phone. She has been sending him emails about her up coming visit.
Megan is looking forward to our trip and the projects she is planning to do with the children. Besides taking the children on a field trip, she is planning to read books, do several art projects, participate in school field day, and much more. Please follow her daily adventures. I will be helping to record her thoughts and experiences.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Also, you may add comments to the daily posts. She would love to hear your encouragement and words of support! We fly out on Sunday, June 29th in the morning!

There are 21 members of the trip going this summer. We, the adults, are keeping a blog as well. You can find a link on the right side or at http://mccsummer2008.blogspot.com/
Enjoy and thanks for your support!

Megan, I am your Mom and Grandmother's friend, Judie. I wnet to Africa last year and saw met so many children and adults that will stay in my heart forever. I hope the same for you. I was 62 years old at the time and learned so much. At your age, you will learn so much too. We are never too old or too young to recognize others in the world who need our love and what we can give to them and should give to them through our time and talents. You have already begun to know that by raising the money that you did so they can go to their animal santuary. Bless you, Little One,and keep up the good work! Fondly, Judie Connelly

Hi Megan,

I work with your mom at TJ. I wanted to tell you how proud I am of you for making a difference in the children's lives there. If everyone would follow your example the world would be a happier place.

Thanks for doing this and please have a wonderful time, I will be checking to see what excited things you and the other children are doing.

God bless you and keep you safe.
