The Trip
Megan woke up at about 5:00 to go to the airport on Sunday. She was so exited and smiled most of the way to the airport. Kyle and Charley took us to the airport and Kyle kept hugging Megan. He asked her to bring him back a mask he could hang on his wall. The trip was long but Megan was a great traveler. For 17 hours she read, drew, watched movies, slept, and ate. I was so proud of her for being so great. She only asked how much longer a few times.
When we arrived and were waiting for our bags, she saw Patrick, the school’s principal, for the first time through the customs glass doors. She waved and jumped up and down. Then she blew him kisses. It was a special moment for me to see her get so excited about seeing him and she kept saying, “We’re in Africa.” When she met Patrick, he gave her a big bear hug. All of the bags and us were loaded onto a big bus and we headed for the Guest House.
After getting settled, Megan decided that she wanted to go swimming at the pool. She put on her suit, but said the water was too cold. So we just relaxed instead. It was a quite evening of dinner and getting organized for the next day. Megan jumped right in to help when we were making a bag for each child. The bags had soap, toothbrushes, pencil & sharpener, and ruler. They will be given out later in the week.
When I put Megan to sleep, she fell asleep in mid sentence. It the best day possible for traveling and we are so excited to be here and can’t wait to see the children!
